Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
A $1 trillion reduction to defense spending over 10 years would put the Pentagon’s budget back in line with where it was relative to other government spending in 2001, says a top-ranking Democrat. The military is headed for an across-the-board budget cut that large if Congress fails to agree to $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction by the end of the year. The penalty known as sequestration was designed to be so harsh it would bring lawmakers to the table for an agreement.

The piece — a part of his book “Confront and Conceal: Obama’s Secret Wars and Surprising Use of American Power” — describes how President Barack Obama accelerated the use of cyberattacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
