Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The "FAA would face significant cuts in operations” under a budget penalty known as sequestration, Jeffrey Zients, the acting director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, told lawmakers during an Aug. 1 House Armed Services Committeee hearing on the defense budget. Congress passed the law that would require the penalty into law one year ago, on the premise that a $1 trillion across-the-government budget cut would be so painful that it would force lawmakers to agree on an even larger deficit reduction package.
At the House Armed Services Committee on Aug. 1, the defense industry will be watching for clues about how the Obama administration plans to implement a penalty devised by Congress to force lawmakers to reduce the federal deficit. The penalty, known as sequestration, triggers a $1 trillion across-the-board government cut come January 2013, unless lawmakers reach a larger deal on deficit reduction.
The Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee (SAC-D) has forwarded to the full committee a $604.5 billion U.S. defense spending bill for fiscal 2013 that for the second year in a row comes to the aid of a Lockheed Martin missile defense program.
