Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The leaders of major U.S. defense companies remain largely undecided about whether to issue layoff notices before the Nov. 6 elections because of federal budget cuts that could take place in January. In late June, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) wrote to the nation’s top defense executives asking them how their companies would be impacted by the $1 trillion across-the-board budget reduction scheduled to take place unless Congress changes the current law. Over the summer, his office has been collecting the responses and released them Sept. 10.
With scores of lawmakers retiring, and others who have lost primary elections or will be voted out of office come November, the congressional committees dealing with aerospace and defense issues are in line for changes.
