Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
Warning that a looming trio of budget disasters would hollow the military and devastate readiness, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has asked the military to begin to prepare for one of them—sequestration. “We really have no choice but to prepare for the worst,” Panetta told reporters during a Jan. 10 news briefing.
TANKER SHORT LIST: After intense lobbying by lawmakers, the U.S. Air Force released its short list of bases for the KC-46A tanker program. Contenders for the main base, which will begin receiving tankers in 2016, are Altus AFB, Okla.; Fairchild AFB, Wash.; Grand Forks AFB, N.D.; and McConnell AFB, Kan. The candidates for the first Air National Guard tanker base include Forbes Air Guard Station, Kan.; Joint-Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.; Pease Air Guard Station, N.H.; Pittsburgh International Airport Air Guard Station, Pa.; and Rickenbacker Air Guard Station, Ohio.
