Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
In a sign of movement in the epic legal battle over the A-12 Avenger II, the Obama administration is asking Congress to allow the Navy to accept a settlement in the case. In a letter outlining amendments to the administration’s fiscal 2014 request for appropriations, the Pentagon is seeking legislation that would “authorize the Secretary of the Navy to accept and retain in-kind goods and services in lieu of monetary payment, for the purposes of a settlement of the A-12 aircraft litigation.”
Massachusetts Senators Elizabeth Warren (D) and William Cowen (D) are pressuring the U.S. Army and the Pentagon to support the Army’s network modernization efforts, which are being squeezed by sequestration and other demands on the Pentagon’s budget.
FURLOUGHS LOOM: The Pentagon is preparing its civilian workforce for up to 11 days of furloughs this year, starting the week of July 8, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says in a May 14 memo. Across-the-board budget cuts aimed at reducing the federal deficit drove the furloughs. Hagel says the Pentagon’s budget for fiscal 2013 was slashed by $37 billion, $20 billion of which hit personnel-heavy operations and maintenance accounts.
