Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
At this time of year, the Pentagon is always wrangling over future budgets. But this year, the ongoing budget indecision is forcing a more open discussion. The Pentagon outlined on July 31 the findings of its Strategic Choices Management Review (SCMR), which are best viewed as the parameters for negotiations on its fiscal 2015-19 budgets.
In announcing the results of the Pentagon’s long-awaited budget review, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel outlined a choose-your-own-adventure challenge to the government: stick with the President’s budget request, trade force size for a high-end military or embark on a 10-year procurement holiday.
