Jeff has been involved in aerospace journalism since the mid 1990s. Prior to joining Aviation Week, Jeff served as managing editor of Launchspace magazine and the International Space Industry Report. He has been the editor and chief of Aviation Week's Aerospace Daily & Defense Report since 2007 and has been a regular contributor to Aviation Week magazine. He received his B.A. from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
Team members from NASA's Environmental Research Aircraft and Sensor Technology (ERAST) program are "ecstatic" over early results from a series of automatic collision avoidance system flight tests flown in Las Cruces, N.M. last week. "I think everybody is really pretty ecstatic about the results," ERAST Program Manager Jeff Bauer told The DAILY. "Everything's working well."
A new Department of Defense (DOD) initiative under the leadership of Ronald Sega, director of defense research and engineering (DDR&E), is working to coordinate military efforts in hypersonics, access to space, and advanced space technology. Dubbed the "National Aerospace Initiative," it will include participation from NASA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), other government agencies, the intelligence community, and industry.
TRW Inc.'s board of directors again has rejected Northrop Grumman Corporation's $5.9 billion buyout offer, calling it "financially inadequate and not in the best interests of TRW's shareholders," the company announced March 13.
