Talks continue between Boeing and U.S. Air Force range officials at Cape Canaveral, Fla., on a new date for the launch of the second Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) mission aboard a Delta IV rocket. "They were trying to consider ... launching this weekend, but I don't know where they are with those plans," Boeing spokesman Robert Villanueva told The DAILY. "The last I heard, they were looking at maybe the end of the month."
Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) pledged his continued support for international cooperation on defense programs in a speech in Washington Aug. 6, while reiterating his assertion that Congress will back off from "Buy American" legislation that critics say would restrict such cooperation. Weldon chairs the House tactical air and land forces subcommittee and is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee under Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), the leading House sponsor of the "Buy American" provisions.
V-22 Osprey program officials are searching for the cause of a hydraulics failure that forced one aircraft to land immediately on Aug. 4, The DAILY has learned. One of two primary hydraulics systems that power the aircraft's flight controls failed on aircraft number 21 during a routine flight above Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. But a backup system automatically activated and the pilot landed the aircraft safely, V-22 program spokesman Ward Carroll said.
