The sudden loss of Intelsat's Americas-7 satellite on Nov. 28 due to an electrical anomaly is not expected to seriously threaten the proposed sale of Intelsat to Zeus Holdings Ltd., according to a space analyst. Bermuda-based Zeus Holdings is a company formed by private equity firms Apax Partners, Permira, Apollo Management and Madison Dearborn Partners. Under the terms of the proposed sale, Zeus has the right to back out following the spacecraft's loss.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has dismissed New S.I.'s protest of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) NextView contract decision on the grounds that the protest was not filed quickly enough.
The Pentagon's recently established Joint Rapid Acquisition Cell (JRAC) is focusing much of its attention on accelerating the purchase of items designed to detect or counteract improvised explosive devices (IEDs), according to JRAC Director Robert Buhrkuhl. "We've been working a lot of key things in the classified area on the IED Task Force," Buhrkuhl told reporters during a briefing at the Pentagon Nov. 24. The task force requested the JRAC's participation, and the office is assisting with nine classified counter-IED programs.
