NEW DELHI — Singapore’s first locally-built microsatellite, X-SAT, which was placed in orbit by India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, has started transmitting images back to a dedicated facility in the Southeast Asian city-state. The imagery data is being sent to the 13-meter X-band antenna at the Center for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), which initiated the X-SAT project.
A chartered air ambulance crashed in a densely populated area on the outskirts of India’s national capital late Wednesday which, combined with other recent accidents, has spurred India to create an accident investigation committee. Authorities say the Pilatus PC-12 single-engine turboprop aircraft was flying into New Delhi from the eastern state of Patna, rushing a seriously ill patient to the city for specialized medical treatment when the crash occurred at 10:50 p.m. local time. The crash killed 10 people, including seven on board,
India is closely monitoring the cloud of volcanic ash drifting across Europe from the eruption of the Grimsvotn volcano in southeastern Iceland on May 21, and has asked airlines to draw up alternate routes to and from North America over the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and also to Western Europe.
