India’s aviation and hospitality sectors are likely to boom with about 9 million domestic travelers planning to make a trip around the country and abroad during the summer holidays.

Air Works India is evaluating options to this year establish greenfield maintenance, repair and overhaul centers in the Middle East. “The Middle Eastern countries have a huge fleet of business jets and helicopters. We are examining local partners in stable countries like the UAE, Qatar and Oman in this region and we would like to tap the growing market,” Vivek N. Gour, Air Works' managing director, tells Aviation Week.

International airlines are facing headwinds from the Indian aviation ministry following the administration’s decision not to allow the Airbus A380 to fly into the country. The Ministry of Civil Aviation withheld permission for foreign airlines because the country’s airport infrastructure is not adequate to handle the movement of the A380. “It might cause chaos at the airports. The height of the aerobridge is not adequate; the taxiing stands also need to be widened,” a senior official at the ministry tells Aviation Week.
