The head of India’s Jet Airways has stepped down from his position, a move perceived as part of a wider face-lift of the airline’s management following a deal with Etihad Airways. CEO Nikos Kardassis on June 5 resigned with immediate effect, less than two months after the Indian carrier sold a 24% stake to the Abu Dhabi-based airline. Jet Airways, the country’s second largest airline by passengers carried, says Chief Operating Officer Hameed Ali will be the “acting chief executive officer” until the airline identifies and appoints a new chief.

Pilatus plans to establish a manufacturing facility in India, as the country looks at acquiring more aircraft from the Swiss aircraft maker. The facility will initially manufacture airframes for its single-engine turboprop PC-12 aircraft. “This will be our third support facility for PC-12 aircraft, the other two being in Portugal and Poland. It will be part of our offset commitment in India,” says Pilatus Vice President Jim Roche.

Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo says it will add 28 new Airbus A320 aircraft to its fleet by 2014. “We have been granted permission by the Indian Civil Aviation Ministry to import new aircraft. The additional aircraft will enable IndiGo to take its low-fare and hassle-free service to more customers and enable stronger connectivity,” a spokesman for the airline says.
