India has approved the purchases of precision-guided bombs from Russia and Barak missiles from Israel in deals worth a total of about $270 million.

India has lost 35 defense aircraft and 14 military pilots in crashes in the last three years, the government says.

The Indian Air Force has issued a request for proposals for 83 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft to be built by the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
