China’s HNA Group is outlining ambitious plans to expand its Hongkong Jet business aircraft management operations to fill what its sees as a void in service and quality in the emerging Chinese market. China’s business aircraft management companies have begun to proliferate, thanks to easier regulation and a growing awareness among the country’s wealthy and big companies that private jets are attainable and useful. But service quality has not matched that of Western standards with a number of carriers.

Beijing and Shanghai are likely to get dedicated airports for business aviation, boosting growth prospects for the industry while relieving commercial airports of the accompanying airspace congestion. The director-general of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Li Jiaxiang, says building the two airports will be part of a set of policies that the agency is working on for the promotion of business aviation.

Australia is stretching out the construction of three air defense destroyers, aiming to preserve skills without adding to the cost of the Navantia-designed, Hobart-class ships. The first of the Aegis-equipped ships, HMAS Hobart, is now due for delivery in March 2016, 16 months after the previous target and nine years after construction contracts were signed. The Royal Australian Navy should receive HMAS Brisbane by September 2017 and HMAS Sydney in March 2019, Defense Minister Stephen Smith says.
