Avic Defense, adopting an increasingly Western approach to military aircraft sales, says it is willing to allow foreign production of its latest export product, the L-15 Falcon supersonic trainer. The aircraft is likely to retain the key advantage of an aircraft from a developing country, however, since the manufacturer is also suggesting it will be cheaply priced.
Contrary to predictions by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s deputy chief, Gen. He Weirong, China is unlikely to field a new fighter with F-22-like capabilities within 10 years, according to U.S. aerospace industry and U.S. Air Force officials.
A state bank will tide Japan Airlines over with bridge loans to keep it running until it is permanently restructured financially and operationally. The government says it will arrange the loan, although it does not say how much money will be extended. The short-term financing has been expected, since the government has previously said that Japan Airlines is too big to fail. Legislation to force a cut in Japan Airlines’ pension payments will also be considered.
