YAOGAN LAUNCH: The ninth spacecraft in China’s Yaogan series of remote sensing satellites will be launched within days. The Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the northwestern province of Gansu says a Long March 4C rocket will be used for the launch of Yaogan 9. The Yaogan group is growing rapidly. Two were launched in December.
Former Qantas executive John Borghetti will be the new CEO of rival Virgin Blue Airlines, replacing co-founder Brett Godfrey, who has retired. Separately, Qantas said its chief financial officer, Colin Storrie, has resigned for personal and health reasons.
Bankrupt Japan Airlines may cut back or even close its cargo operation as it restructures under protection from creditors. The airline says it has given up plans to merge its air cargo service with that of shipping company Nippon Yusen KK. Japanese newswire Jiji reported that Nippon Yusen was no longer committed to combining its Nippon Cargo Airlines with the ailing airline.
