Malaysian cargo carrier Transmile Air will begin operating at Singapore Changi Airport, seeing a market opportunity to carry bulky oil and gas equipment. Transmile Air, the first airline to start operations to Changi this year, will operate three weekly roundtrip cargo flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur via Kuching and Labuan in East Malaysia from April 10. The carrier will ply the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore-Kuching-Labuan-Kuala Lumpur route on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Japan Airlines will drastically increase the planned cutbacks in its services following pressure from the government and banks. The bankrupt carrier, which applied for protection from creditors on Jan. 9, will cut 29 international routes, up from 16 originally scheduled for abolition, and 31 domestic routes, up from 18, domestic media report. The total number of cutbacks is 60, according to some reports. Other media say 50.
GAMECO plans a major expansion of its business, spreading out from its Guangzhou base in southern China to provide line and heavy maintenance elsewhere in the country. The company is meanwhile achieving notable improvements in efficiency with a reorganization of work practices and plant layout.
