Japanese industry will seek a larger role in Boeing’s 737 successor program than the already large share it holds in the 787, according to policy goals set out by the ministry that guides the country’s economic development. The industry also plans to step up its involvement in engine development, focusing on new powerplants for narrowbody passenger aircraft. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry lays out these and a large series of other development goals in a technology roadmap that sets out plans mostly for the coming decade.

Singapore Flying College, the pilot training arm of Singapore Airlines, is investing more than A$40 million ($34.5 million) at Sunshine Coast Airport near Maroochydore, Queensland, Australia, for new jet trainer aircraft and flight simulators. The school, which operates two facilities in Australia, is acquiring five new Cessna Mustang C510 aircraft, the first of which has arrived at its base in Maroochydore. One of two new flight simulators has also arrived.

Malaysia Airlines says it has not made a final decision on its order for six Airbus A380s despite raising the possibility of canceling the contract because of repeated delivery delays. The comments by CEO Azmil Zahruddin follow remarks by Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri, who told the Malaysian parliament the airline would not cancel its order.
