All Nippon Airways, reporting strong quarterly financial results, warns that its business outlook is uncertain amid international economic weakness, high fuel prices and rising competition at home, including the effect of new fast train lines.

Japan Airlines will exploit new slot availability at Tokyo Haneda Airport to increase frequencies on six domestic routes from the airport as part of a larger plan to grow capacity this year. After a year in which JAL entered bankruptcy protection from creditors and massively slashed its network, the carrier is increasing frequencies on 17 domestic routes, including the six from Haneda, and adding new routes while reducing frequencies on three.

Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department is calling for international regulation of airport fuel supplies following an incident on April 13, 2010, in which fuel contamination apparently deprived a Cathay Pacific Airbus A330 crew of engine control. “The oversight on quality control of aviation fuel and operations at airports is very much based on self-regulation of the aviation fuel supply industry and the airport operators,” the department says in its latest bulletin on the incident.
