Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.
Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.
Thai Airways’ financials managed to return to an operating profit in the third quarter, although exchange rate deficits and other special items dragged down the carrier’s results to a show heavier net loss.
Qatar Airways has purchased a stake of almost 10% in Cathay Pacific, as the Middle Eastern carrier looks to build its portfolio of airline investments. Qatar bought 378.2 million Cathay Pacific shares from Kingboard Chemical Holdings Ltd., with the deal valued at HK$5.2 billion ($661.6 million). The transaction closed on Nov. 6.
The airline, which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 16, said it faced “multi-directional legal attacks [from lessors] which Island Air could no longer combat without additional financing.”
