House lawmakers yesterday approved a continuing resolution that will fund FAA and other agencies through March 6, and meanwhile the Senate passed a six-month extension to FAA’s operating authority.
FAA is expanding the application of Sensis Corp. runway safety technology at New York Kennedy Airport and is considering further growth in this program elsewhere, according to Sensis executives.
FAA is awarding $600,000 contracts to four carriers to trial cockpit moving map displays for use in runway operations. The money will be used to install electronic flight bags with moving-map capability, according to an FAA website. The four carriers are SkyWest, Piedmont, US Airways and Southwest. Other carriers will be added to the trial later. The House aviation subcommittee is scheduled to hold a runway safety hearing today.
