FAA is hoping to make an announcement by the end of the year regarding a low-cost surface surveillance system for smaller airports, Sturgell says.

The two parties had already agreed to jointly ask for mediation if this round failed to yield a deal by Dec. 8, but they kept going for another four days past this deadline. No timeline has yet been set for mediation.
