Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

The new House transportation supremo is wasting no time in diving back into the FAA reauthorization issue. Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), the incoming chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, wants to hold two hearings on reauthorization toward the end of this month, industry and congressional sources say. Mica has vowed to make FAA reauthorization one of his top priorities.

The U.S. controllers’ union has for the first time been given a seat on the FAA’s top advisory council. Paul Rinaldi, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, will serve on the FAA Management Advisory Council (MAC) along with 12 other members. Rinaldi says NATCA’s involvement on the MAC is “reflective of the inclusive management style that [Administrator Randy Babbitt] has instituted at the agency.”

Northrop Grumman subsidiary Park Air Systems says it has played a major role in the establishment of air traffic management systems at the new Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport. The company has supplied $16 million worth of communication, navigation and surveillance products to Al Maktoum. These include ground movement radar, a voice communication control system, VHF radios and instrument landing systems.
