Summary

Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic have strengthened their relationship by signing a code-share agreement on several international and domestic routes. The pair will be able to sell connecting flights on each other’s services. This will primarily include Air NZ routes within New Zealand, between Australia and New Zealand, and some transpacific and Pacific Island routes. The code-share will also apply to two of Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul Asia-Pacific routes.

Qantas has received the regulatory approval it needs to resume Airbus A380 service to Los Angeles from Jan. 16. The carrier last week released a flight schedule that included A380 flights to Los Angeles from Jan. 17, although at the time it stressed that sign-off was needed from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Aviation Daily, Jan. 7). Now, CASA has approved the resumption, clearing the way for the transpacific flights.

Nav Canada has announced plans for a new series of flight trials aimed at reducing emissions and cutting fuel consumption in the busy transatlantic corridor. The project is titled Europe-North America Go ADS-B for a Greener Environment (ENGAGE), and will involve the use of satellite-based surveillance to increase flight efficiency on North Atlantic routes.
