Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.
Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.
The growth in premium passenger numbers on international routes slowed slightly in November, although it is still high enough to prevent concern, according to the International Air Transport Association. the number of premium passengers was up by 9.6% year-on-year in November, compared with the 11% rise in October. Economy numbers, meanwhile, increased by 7% in November, versus 7.6% growth in October.
Nav Canada continues to see strong year-on-year traffic growth, with December movements up 4.6%. For the fiscal year-to-date, traffic is up 5.2% from the same period last year. Nav Canada’s fiscal year runs through Aug. 31. Ror the three months ending Nov. 30, traffic rose 5.4%. This helped Nav Canada achieve revenues of C$297 million ($299.5 million) for the quarter before rate stabilization, up from C$281 million in the same quarter in the previous year. Operating expenses were C$235 million, up by C$7 million.
Korean Air has released more details of its initial long-haul schedule for the Airbus A380, with flights from New York beginning Aug. 2 and Los Angeles Oct. 1. The carrier previously said its U.S. flights would begin in August, but is now being more specific about dates and schedules. The A380 will initially fly from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport three times a week, and daily from Sept. 1. Los Angeles A380 flights will operate daily immediately.
