Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

Air New Zealand plans to introduce inflight phone connectivity on the first two of its new Airbus A320s, but has yet to decide whether it will offer the capability on subsequent deliveries. The first of Air NZ’s new A320s arrived last week, with voice and data capability to be introduced within the next month. This will be the first time inflight connectivity has been used on New Zealand domestic routes.

Hawaiian Airlines will target further growth in Asia as it takes delivery of more Airbus A330-200s following unexpectedly strong performances from the Japanese and South Korean services launched late last year. Daily flights from Honolulu to Tokyo Haneda and four weekly flights to Seoul Incheon were introduced in the fourth quarter, which CEO Mark Dunkerley says are the beginning of a “further expansion westward over the next several years.” Dunkerley’s comments were made to analysts as the airline reported a $70.6 million net profit for the fourth quarter.
