Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.
Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.
The U.S. House of Representatives version of the FAA reauthorization bill supports efforts by U.S. aerospace companies to set up a $1.5 billion fund to help airlines equip for the NextGen air traffic control modernization effort, say the fund’s organizers.
Virgin Blue says its new transcontinental Airbus A330 flights—marking the carrier’s first foray into domestic business class—will launch on May 26. The flights from Sydney to Perth will begin as once daily, but will ramp up to twice daily from June 6 and three times a day from July 4. The A330-200s are new deliveries, but are being leased from BOC Aviation. The airline plans for more routes between Perth and East Coast cities when two more A330s are delivered next year.
The Japanese low-cost carrier being set up by ANA has attracted another investor—Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INJC). INJC has invested ¥10 million ($119,690) into A&F Aviation, the LCC company founded in February. With this announcement, INJC will hold a 33.3% stake, First Eastern will also hold 33.3% and ANA 33.4%.
