Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

Boeing 787 launch customer All Nippon Airways confirms that the late delivery of its third 787 is delaying its plans to introduce the aircraft on scheduled international service. ANA’s third 787 is to be its first in international long-haul configuration, and the carrier has been waiting for this aircraft to arrive, so it can begin putting the 787 on selected international routes. The third aircraft was due in November, but is now expected to arrive in late December.

Air New Zealand and All Nippon Airways (ANA) will launch a new code-share agreement in March, which means the end of Air NZ’s code-share with Japan Airlines (JAL). The move aligns Air NZ with a fellow Star Alliance member in Japan, instead of Oneworld carrier JAL. This appears to be one of the first results of Air NZ’s review of its international operations, which the carrier said would examine all alliance arrangements.

Airline partners Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand have signed an agreement with a biofuel research company to explore production of fuel from biomass in their home countries. The memoranda of understanding (MOUs) apply to a new biofuel process developed by Australia-based company Licella. The airlines have committed to support the development and commercialization of a biomass-derived aviation fuel.
