Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.
Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.
Japan Airlines (JAL) and International Airlines Group’s (IAG’s) British Airways unit plan to launch their joint venture in March 2013 now that the deal has been approved by Japanese regulators. With this joint venture the two Oneworld alliance members will share revenue on flights between Japan and Europe.
A move by Qantas to split its domestic and international operations is expected to highlight how much the international unit has been adversely affecting the rest of the airline group’s business. In a major realignment, Qantas will treat its international and domestic operations as separate business entities, with each reporting their financial performance. Both of the new units will have their own CEOs, part of a wider shakeup of Qantas senior management. The carrier says these changes will help bring “more accountability and transparency” to each segment.
