Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.
Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.
Air New Zealand temporarily grounded its fleet of Beech 1900D turboprops for inspections on Aug. 7 after a hairline crack was found in the tail of an aircraft. The crack was discovered near the top of the vertical stabilizer of one 1900D during routine maintenance. The carrier decided to inspect all 18 aircraft, and of the first four examined, “three have been found to be affected.”
Qantas has acknowledged that Emirates Airline is among several carriers being considered as a candidate for boosting the Australian operator’s international network. In a statement to the Australian stock exchange, Qantas says “it is in discussions with a number of airlines about potential alliances. . .These airlines include Emirates, among others.” A link between the two has been rumored for some time, but this is the first formal indication of such discussions.
