Summary

Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

Thales wants to increase its air traffic management (ATM) portfolio by acquiring an ATM information technology (IT) business from French group Egis. The two companies are in exclusive talks about selling Egis Avia’s Maestro arrival and departure flight sequencing systems, Atalis aeronautical information systems, datalink servers and Scansim air traffic control simulators. No purchase price has been announced.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) once again is criticizing the “painfully slow” progress in Europe’s air traffic management reform, and has issued its own plan for increasing ATM efficiency and lowering cost. IATA unveiled its blueprint at the Civil Air Navigation Organization (CANSO) World ATM Congress in Madrid. Among the recommendations are a drastic cut in the number of en-route control centers, and new ways to enforce cost-efficiency targets.
