Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

AirAsia says it will fight fines imposed by Malaysia’s competition regulator over a failed linkup between AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines (MAS), and the low-cost carrier also has urged the regulator to apply the same scrutiny to airports. The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) issued a proposed decision stating that both airlines infringed competition laws during their short-lived collaboration agreement. The MyCC says it will fine each carrier RM10 million ($3 million). The airlines have 30 days to submit counter-arguments.

Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific is preparing to launch its long-haul expansion with newly-arrived Airbus A330-300s, but will fly the aircraft on existing Asian routes first. The airline received its first A330 in June, and it has been used on routes from Manila to Singapore and Seoul. With the arrival of the second A330 on Sept. 5, the carrier will deploy A330s on select flights from Manila to domestic destination Cebu and to Hong Kong, between Sept. 16 and Oct. 4.
