Adrian is Auckland bureau chief for Aviation Week, based in New Zealand. He covers commercial aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Adrian was previously based in Aviation Week’s Washington office for nine years, writing for a range of the group’s publications and covering many aspects of the commercial aviation industry. He has won Australasian and international awards for his aviation writing.

Prior to joining Aviation Week in 2002, Adrian covered aviation industry and policy issues for two other publishing companies in Washington. He has also worked for newspapers in Texas and New Zealand, covering a wide range of topics. Adrian graduated from Auckland University with a degree in history and English in 1992.

Hawaiian Airlines has finalized its agreement to order six Airbus A330-800neo aircraft, and has also struck an engine and maintenance deal with Rolls-Royce. The carrier signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) relating to the aircraft with Airbus in July, and has now placed a firm order. The A330neo deal replaces an order for six A350-800s, which Hawaiian agreed to cancel when Airbus wanted to shelve that version of the A350.

Air New Zealand can make its Auckland base a major connecting hub for traffic from Australia and Southeast Asia to South America, the airline’s CEO Christopher Luxon says. These connecting opportunities will be opened up when Air New Zealand launches its first service to South America in December 2015—a flight from Auckland to Buenos Aires. Due to New Zealand’s geographical position, linking certain other Pacific Rim markets to South America is one of the few transit flows that is viable for Air New Zealand.
