Zambian national carrier revival with help from Ethiopian

Ethiopian Airlines is to become the “strategic partner” of a re-launched national airline for Zambia, according to the southern Africa nation’s transport minister Brian Mushimba

Some $30 million will be invested during the carrier’s first year, with funds being provided by the Zambian government and Ethiopian, Mushimba said.
The minister said the partnership would ensure the country’s “stretched” treasury was not overburdened but the airline – which collapsed in 2009 – would remain “Zambian-owned, Zambian-operated”.
Reports in September indicated that Zambian Airways was to be relaunched using Sukhoi Superjet 100s. Sukhoi confirmed it was having discussions regarding the supply of aircraft. There is confirmation that the name will be revived however.
