World Airline Report: Top Five Airlines by RPKs

The surge in demand for post-pandemic air travel is clearly visible in the year-over-year traffic numbers across airlines worldwide.

Where the differences are most marked are with airlines in markets that took longer to recover because of border closures and government rules for air travel, such as mandatory testing and/or quarantines.

The US airlines benefited from a large domestic market that returned relatively quickly. As borders re-opened and more people also began to travel internationally, the US carriers continued to see passenger numbers and RPKs swell, but at a less steep rate than airlines elsewhere that rely heavily on international traffic, like Air France-KLM and Emirates, and had to wait longer for restrictions to lift.

Load factors are also high across the top 50 airlines by traffic.
