Wataniya Airways ceases operations

Kuwait's Wataniya Airways decided yesterday to cease all of its operations, which ended with the return of its final scheduled flight to Kuwait last night.

In an emergency meeting yesterday, the Board of Wataniya Airways met to discuss the company’s financial condition and options for the company going forward. As a result, the Board decided to call a meeting of the company’s shareholders as soon as possible to discuss the future course of the company.

In the meantime, given the current financial situation of the company and the lack of fair trade requirements in the local market - as well as the difficult political and security situation in the region - the Board decided to cease all Wataniya Airways operations with the return to Kuwait of its last scheduled flight last night.

Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways are helping to bring back to Kuwait any of Wataniya's customers that may be stranded (based on seat availability).

Watinaya says further information will be given in a press conference next week and that as soon as possible it will be announcing an extraordinary general assembly meeting, where the future of the airline will be determined.
