UAE carriers continue Cairo flights and work closely with embassy

Both Etihad Airways and Emirates Airline are continuing to operate scheduled services to Cairo and Alexandria and are working closely with the UAE authorities to upgrade services where necessary, as a result of the ongoing political unrest in Egypt.

Since January 29, Etihad has operated three supplementary flights from Cairo and upgraded five aircraft, allowing the airline to accommodate an additional 1,020 passengers wanting to leave Egypt. Etihad has transported more than 700 UAE Nationals to Abu Dhabi during this period.

Emirates Airline has said its services to and from the Egyptian capital, Cairo are operating as scheduled. ''We are monitoring the situation closely and aim to give customers as much notice as possible should there be any changes to our operations," an Emirates spokesperson said.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are pleased to have worked so closely with the UAE Government to help UAE Nationals, and passengers from around the world, return safely home.

“Since the events in Egypt began, we have worked hand-in-hand with the UAE Embassy in Egypt, headed by the Ambassador HE Mohamed Nakhera Al Dhahri on this important evacuation project. Our support staff in Cairo have also worked hard to ensure the care of our guests during this difficult period.

We are currently assessing opportunities to provide additional relief flights or upgrade aircraft over the coming days if required.”

HE Mohamed Nakhera Al Dhahri, UAE Ambassador to Cairo said: “Relations between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are strong, and we currently have many UAE Nationals residing in Egypt. We are proud to work in partnership with Etihad to ensure the safe transport of passengers of all nationalities to Abu Dhabi where necessary.”

Although Etihad’s scheduled services to Egypt continue to operate as planned, customers are advised to check the airline's website or contact the call centre for the latest updates.
