South African Express reaches out to government for fleet renewal

South African Express plans to go the South African government about funding for the airline's fleet renewal plan.

The carrier’s board has instructed CEO Inati Ntshanga and his management team to approach the government, as even with the ZAR1.1 billion (USD 71.8 million) guaranteed from the government, it cannot source aircraft itself.
Ntshanga has said that the carrier’s current fleet are difficult to operate with increased MRO and downtime costs.

SA Express began its cost-cutting in 2014, which has resulted in a total saving of ZAR235 million (USD15.27 million) in 2015.
