Sahel G5 plans to establish new carrier
The Sahel G5 regional bloc plan to establish a regional airline named Air Sahel.
The member states of Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad will each contribute two aviation experts to a committee dedicated to developing the start-up.
Mohamed Mahmoud Bouassriya, director general of Mauritania’s civil aviation authority, will oversee the committee.
A business plan is to be drawn up ready for a launch next year.
The carrier will focus on improving connectivity between member states, and it is currently uncertain what relationship it will have with Sahel Airlines.
