Qatar Airways ups Lagos to a daily service

The Qatari-flag carrier Qatar Airways has expanded its service to the Nigerian city of Lagos by replacing its Airbus A330-200 two-class service with a three-class A340-600.

The new aircraft type operating the route is combined with the carrier upping its service from five times a week to a daily flight from Doha.

The A340 will be configured with eight first class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration with 42 business class seats in a 2-2-2 and 216 economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout.

Qatar Airways’ chief executive Akbar Al Baker explained that the airline’s Nigerian expansion was evidence of the continued economic prosperity in the West African market.

“Lagos is one of Qatar Airways’ key routes, which has grown significantly in stature since launching two years ago,” he said.

“I am glad to say that we now offer even better services, increased capacity both for passengers and cargo, as well as improved connectivity to our network of destinations for our passengers travelling to and from Lagos.

“Africa has been highlighted by the International Air Transport Association as one of the most important growth markets for aviation over the next 20 years, and Qatar Airways is committed to making further inroads into this dynamic continent to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities available,” added Al Baker.
