Poll: Does Automated Taxi, Takeoff And Landing Of Commercial Aircraft Make You Feel …?
Airbus conducted six dedicated test flights over nine months as part of the research project that culminated in April with the milestone first fully automatic vision-based taxi, takeoff and landing by an A350.
The flight on April 24 at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport completed the two-year Autonomous Taxi, Take Off and Landing project to demonstrate fully automatic operation using onboard image recognition technology.
“The biggest difficulty was convincing the pilots not to do anything,” joked Airbus chief technology officer Grazia Vittadini, announcing the milestone in her June 18 keynote speech on the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ Aviation 2020 virtual conference.
