New national carrier for DRC set for end June
News agency Reuters has reported that the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo will launch its new national carrier, Congo Airways on June 30.
The new airline will replace LAC - Lignes Aériennes Congolaises – which has been apparently grounded while the plans for the new airline have been developed with the support of Air France consulting.
Congo Airways will operate with two A320-200s according to CEO Claude Kirongozi in the Reuters interview.
The first of the aircraft has been taken on wet lease from Monastir, Tunisia-based Nouvelair. Negotiations are currently underway for the second aircraft.
The June 30 launch will see Congo Airways begin services from Kinshasa to Goma and Lubumbashi.
Kirongozi’s ambitions also include a number of Bombardier Q400-8 for domestic and regional routes,
