Garuda Indonesia signed an agreement with GE Aerospace at the Paris Air Show to restore and overhaul the airline’s CFM56-7B and GE90-115B engines.
The agreement--for Garuda's fleet of Airbus A330s, Boeing 737s and 777s--includes the Indonesian flag carrier and its subsidiaries—Garuda Group, GMF AeroAsia and Citilink.
Garuda Indonesia president and CEO Irfan Setiaputra said the agreement “reflects our commitment to accelerate our business recovery in order to optimize our mission to be adaptive and agile company specially in seizing market opportunity."
At the end of May, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced their intention to enter a joint venture (JV) with the aim of increasing capacity and commercial cooperation beyond their current codeshare agreements. Pending regulatory approvals, the JV will potentially see the two airlines coordinate schedules between Singapore and Indonesia—primarily Singapore and Denpasar, Jakarta and Surabaya.
“Aligning with the current airline market trend that shows significant growth amid the pre-endemic phase, Garuda Indonesia mainly focuses on optimizing production capacity through the enhancement of operations, which one of the plans would increase the total of serviceable aircraft to grab wider opportunities in domestic and international networks, Irfan said. “Therefore, having continuous support from GE to support the aircraft readiness to be airworthy is one of the primary fundamentals for us to prepare a seamless, safe, and comfortable flight experience for our customers.”
