Boeing unveils new 737 seat option

LIFT by EnCore

Boeing has closely collaborated with LIFT by EnCore to develop a new 737 seat option, which has been unveiled at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Acumen: Economy class revamp needs a first-mover

Victoria Moores

Seat designer Acumen 10 years ago came up with two “ground-breaking” economy class design projects, the “Cozy” concept with Thompson Aero Seating and “Freedom” with Zodiac Aerospace. With Cozy, the individual seats on each row are staggered by 12 inches giving a zig-zag look, while Freedom is a yin- and yang-style design of forward- and backward-facing seats.

They address the lack of shoulder width, give clear arm-rest priority, offer head support and their fixed-back shell removes the problem of others unpredictably reclining into the passengers’ space.

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines has become the first Airbus A320 family operator to take delivery of new larger pivoting overhead bins. The new A321 allows 60% more roll-on carry-on bags to be stored compared to the traditional fixed bin option. The airline is also the first to fly “Space-Flex v2” —an optimized rear cabin configuration that integrates two lavatories and four trolleys outside the revenue area. Combined with Smart-Lav also installed in these new aircraft—the optimized footprint lavatory—this resulting arrangement allows Delta to place 192 seats in the two-class cabin layout without compromising passenger comfort.

Recaro Aircraft Seating has showcased a concept seat, which is capable of reporting live operational and maintenance data. The seat, which was exhibited at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, ties in with the Internet of Things by transmitting operational status data to a handheld tablet computer. This includes whether the seat is in the correct takeoff and landing position, for cabin crew use.
