Gulf AIr flies in special flight to bring home Bahraini students from rioting Cairo

Bahrain's national carrier, Gulf Air flew in a special flight to Cairo today to bring back Bahraini students from Egypt in view of the current security situation in Cairo and other major cities in the country

The airline also replaced its regular flight GF071/070 between Bahrain and Cairo to a larger Airbus A340 aircraft to accommodate more stranded passengers in Egypt. The second regular flight GF 079/080 was operated earlier than the scheduled time to comply with the curfew timings in force in Cairo.

“As the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain, it is our responsibility to ensure our Bahraini nationals are brought back home,” said Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer Mr. Samer Majali.

“We are cooperating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation Authorities, and other officials in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Egypt to bring our passengers as safely and as soon as possible. That’s why we operated a bigger aircraft and rescheduled our regular flight in view of the curfew.”

“We are in constant touch with the officials and will take immediate further steps as and when necessary.”

Gulf Air will continue to fly the bigger A340 on 31 Jan and an A330 on 1 Feb on its scheduled flight GF 071/GF070 to and from Cairo to accommodate more passengers while its Bahrain-Alexandria flights GF 075/GF076 will be operated earlier than the scheduled timings on 31 Jan and 1 Feb 2011 to comply with the curfew in force. Passengers are being informed of the revised schedule by the Gulf Air World Wide Contact Centre.

Changes to Gulf Air Cairo and Alexandria flights will be according to the below table.
