The recognition, presented by the GCAA’s Director – Airworthiness, Ahmed Salem Al Rawahi, to Mick Hills, flydubai’s Divisional Head – Engineering & Maintenance, comes after flydubai worked in close cooperation with the GCAA to ensure that the Engineering structure, manuals and procedures meet the amended Civil Aviation Requirements for airworthiness compliance of aircraft. All airlines in the UAE must be aligned to these regulations by 30 June 2012.
Flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said: “We are very pleased to receive this recognition, which is testament to the hard work of the team to meet the guidelines set by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the GCAA. As the aviation industry continues to grow, it is important for airlines to work together to align standards and we are proud to be the first carrier in the UAE to achieve CAR M status.”
Commenting on the recognition, Al Rawahi said: “New regulations are being implemented by EASA to manage the airworthiness of aircraft operated by airlines. Harmonisation of practices across the world is a major step forward. flydubai’s processes met the standards set by the new guidelines. The recognition to the industry is a semi-annual practice by the Airworthiness Department to encourage airlines to comply with these new regulations.”
