Fastjet launches Harare-Johannesburg service

Fastjet has launched its daily flights between Harare and Johannesburg, with the first of the flights taking off today.

“Today’s flight is an important milestone in fastjet's route expansion and is a result of working closely with the governments and civil aviation authorities of Zimbabwe and South Africa to bring affordable, reliable, safe, and on-time flights between the two countries,” said Richard Bodin, Fastjet’s chief commercial officer.
The route offers an alternative to passengers, who have previously had to decide between high fares or a 20 hour drive.
The carrier hopes to launch a service between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg in the future.
Since the route was announced, competing airlines have lowered their fares by as much 40% in order to compete with the low cost carrier.
