European flights face potential delay

Flights from the Middle East to northern Europe face possible delays following a volcanic eruption in Iceland

A huge cloud of volcanic ash is tracking south and early this morning airports in Scotland were closed.

The UK's National Air Traffic Service announced it has restricted the number of aircraft flying into UK airspace because of the ash cloud.

"Volcanic ash represents a significant safety threat to aircraft. We are monitoring the situation with the Met Office, Eurocontrol and neighbouring countries, and working closely with the airlines to help inform their decisions about their operations. Anyone planning to fly today should check with their airline before going to the airport," a spokeman for NATS said.
