Emirates and Oman Air scoop APEX awards
Emirates and Oman Air have both scooped awards at the 2011 Passenger Choice Awards, held at APEX EXPO, in Seattle.
Emirates won the “Best Overall Passenger Experience (for more than 50 IFE aircraft equipped in fleet)” award, while Oman Air scooped “Best Inflight Connectivity & Communications”.
The Passenger Choice Awards, created by APEX and voted on by the traveling public, was designed to recognise airlines for their service, products and innovations.
The winners were determined based solely on the votes of travellers – with the Nielsen Company, tracking the voting.
Oman Air uses OnAir’s inflight passenger communications services, which includes mobile phone and BlackBerry usage, as well as internet access. The OnAir service is based on Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband.
Launched in 2009, Oman Air passengers are able to use their mobile phones and BlackBerry-type devices to send and receive text messages, emails including attachments, and to make and receive mobile phone calls during flights.
They can also use laptops and the seat-back inflight entertainment screen to access the internet and use webmail and instant messaging.
Emirates and OnAir announced an agreement to install Mobile OnAir and Internet OnAir on its Airbus A380 aircraft fleet last year. The first OnAir-equipped Emirates Airbus 380 will come into service in June 2012.
