Congo Airways struggles to reclaim grounded aircraft

Congo Airways continues to face struggles over freeing its A320-200 which is impounded at Dublin International, after it was grounded at the airport last month, ch-aviation reports.

US firm Miminco LLC, and US citizens John Dormer Tyson and Ilunga Jean Mukendi secured a court order allowing them to ground the aircraft pending the settlement of a USD11.5 million claim against the Congolese government.

The claim originates in 1997, when Zairean soldiers occupied a diamond mining field owned by Miminco LLC.
Kin Kiey Mulumba, Congolese Minister for Relations with Parliament, stated an agreement with Miminco LLC to resolve the issue has been signed, yet a new claim for USD100 million has been filed.
The new claimant is reported by the Irish Times to be FG Hemisphere Associates, a US distressed debt investor.
